The computer is truly amazing machine. Few tools can help us to perform so many different tasks. We can
track an investment, publish news letter, design a building, do research, or train pilots by using computers.
Computers have taken on a role in nearly every aspect of our lives. For example, today’s automobiles could
not even start without embedded computer systems. A skill of using computers systems increases our
employment prospects. This book is written to serve as introduction to information technology and how it
can be used in different areas. The book deals with the fundamental concepts, technologies and theories as
well as practical applications.
The book is primarily written for BBA (TU), BIM (TU), and BBA (PU) Students and covers entire content
of the above mentioned courses. Besides this, it written in easy-to-read and jargon free style. This book is
divided into twenty-three chapters. Chapter 1 discusses about introduction and overview of computers.
Chapter 2 includes discussion on information technology in business and various kinds of information
systems used in organizations. Chapter 3 provides description about computer hardware that include CPU,
memory, input devices, and output devices. Chapter 4 covers discussion on various types of software.
Chapter 5 describes about data communication and computer networks that includes communication
media, network types, network topologies, network architectures, communication protocols, etc. Chapter 6
explains the concept of internet, internet services, intranet, extranet, internet protocols etc. Chapter 7 includes
discussion on multimedia and its components and applications. Chapter 8 explains the concept of DBMS
that includes basics of DBMS, data models, database languages, database system architectures, database
users, etc. Chapter 9 demonstrates concept of computer security and privacy that includes computer crime,
computer security controls, authentication, authorization, malware, anti-malware, hacking, etc. Chapter 10
covers description on contemporary technologies that includes digital marketing and digital economy, data
mining and data warehousing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, etc. Chapter 11-14 is about laboratory
works that includes MS-DOS and windows, word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
